Cream together the butter with half of the sugar. Add the egg yolks one at a time. Add the flour, vanilla sugar and the ground almonds. Whisk the egg whites, gradually adding the remaining sugar.
In a bowl, beat the butter, sugar and eggs together, then add the flour, yeast and salt and then, mixing with a wooden spoon, the milk. Add half of the chopped walnuts, chopped figs, whole pine nuts, citron, sultanas, orange peel and the brandy.
